I think part of the draw of a Space Force/Corps is exactly because the USAF simply sees space as an extension of the air, rather than as a fundamentally different environment. The term "aerospace" is somewhat artificial and serves to mask the radical differences in design and employment between aircraft and spacecraft. While I somewhat agree with your position that the amount and type of infrastructure we currently have in space is insufficient to justify a separate service, space is so foreign that I believe it needs an independent voice to push the development of space forces that are more than just supporting assets for ground/sea/air forces.
