I'm not Catholic, but my mother was, and she left that church after college, when she began to study history seriously. Catholic church history is truly grim.
The Catholic Church has gone through many different historical permutations, from revolutionary to agrarian, militant to monastic, licentious to legalistic. Now it's deep into bordering on the irrelevant. My neighbor says his church, the only Catholic church in the county, has about 80 people at Mass on Sundays, including two families with children in it, seven kids total. All the rest of the parishioners have white hair.
Snuffy is in no way out of the ordinary, and neither is the impotent hierarchy of which he is a part.
I say sic the IRS on him and dog him into the ground.
