One of the first things you do to fend off any lawsuit is to immediately file against the perp, or the perp's estate, for the cost of the round (or rounds) needed to protect you from harm, plus the cost of repairing any damage caused by the perp (deductible on homeowner's insurance?). If ignored, you win by default. Makes it a lot harder for the other side to sue if they've already lost.
