This is so sad....20 years ago or so, my Father who was a veteran, complained to the then Mayor Athenson about the cemetery, telling him that some day he would be buried there, Athenson replied with a joke and smiled at my Dad, when years passed, my Dad took a ride up to Windsor, came home and said "That's it, I'm moving" what he meant was and later explained was that when the time came, he did not want to be buried up there, and years later passed away, and was buried up in Cedar Hill, and has been there for 18 years now, so I can see that Hartford has done nothing to improve on it yet !

In 2010, a young man named Nick Chapman wanted to earn an Eagle Scot badge .Along with Troop 203 he organized project clean slate. On that day the community came out to the Windsor cemetery and scrubbed Veteran's tombstones, and even witness a veteran being laid to rest on that dayI along with my granchildren attended that event and it was a day in which a lot of lessons were learned. If anyone is willing to organize such an event my granchildren and I are always available to give back to the Veteran's.

So very sad and yet so true, the public officials are spending thousands of dollars doing everything else but taking care of our City. Hartford's Northwood and Soldier's Field has been used as a dumping ground for many years, it's time to clean and repair those gravestones. They are the forgotten Heroes.

Great comment, we need solutions as well as identifying problems. If you can contact me either by my cell phone or my e-mail,both are posted on the blog homepage. we can try to get something organized. I remember the Boy Scout project you mentioned and I think they also pressure washed the markers that needed cleaning

My Grandparents the Sullivan's (your Grandmother and mine were sisters) are buried there Kevin and it's a shame. We were up there for Memorial Day and were happy to see the flags placed by the Boy Scouts but the whole cemetery is a disgrace.gingmem
