The Oakland Terrace homicide is NO. 7. We are still higher than last year. Kevin, do you know what happened to that very informational map the Courant had last year that pinpointed where all the homidices had occurred along with individual write-ups?
It was very useful.

The HPD website as of a few minutes ago is still only updated until Feb 20th so the information is a few weeks old. I'll try to get the exact number and update it here. Regardless, this is usually the "quiet" time of year for shootings and homicides. They normally pick up during the summer months.

Whichever way it goes though, do you believe the Mayor that violent crime is down, or would you be more likely to support his efforts if he acknowledged the problem and asked for everyone to help control it?

If I can figure out how to post a map I'll do it and try to keep it updated with the murder locations, I couldn't find it on the Courant either.

I know this is an older post but it has become horrifyingly relevant to me this week. Nobody was killed, thank God but the potential was there.
On Tuesday night my husband returned home from work at 10PM, parking in front of our house .As he got out of the car, 2 guys came around the side, stuck a gun to his head and told him to give them his money($12) his company supplied cell phone and the car keys. He thought briefly about fighting back but fortunately did not. This was on Bliss St in the South End RIGHT IN FRONT OF OUR HOUSE! As much as I have had my issues with HPD in the past this time they really stepped up. there were 2 cruisers here in less than 5 minutes and the officers were helpful, sympathetic and very professional. Officer Flores and his partner have completely changed my perception of the HPD. In the past we have been blamed by officers for living in Hartford but there was none of that this time. In fact the car was recovered at during the night and an officer came to our house personally to tell us. Such a complete change in attitude from the old way things were done. So I guess this is pretty much it for us. We've put up with a lot here but the thought that instead of celebrating our 33rd anniversary tonight I could have been planning my husbands funeral is just too much to wrap around my brain. Can we sell the house, probably not, will we give up and walk away, I don't know. The stress is unbelievable I'm afraid to go outside and I don;t know what to do.
