This is possibly the most important column you have written. I call it all "the business of poverty" and I am not by anyone's terms, a conservative.

It's worth noting that all of these crimes are related to the illegal drug industry.

...not a question arose on the part of the City Council when I raised the issue when the group was up for funding again.
----------------------------------
It will be great when you get on Council. You'll be in a position to raise the issue of taxpayer funding for community organizations. While you were at it you could also look into taxpayer money going to Hartford Office of Youth Services. What do we get for that money? Why do we need ten(!!!) guys to do whatever it is the department does? At least the non-profit guys are not on City health insurance/pension.

In the summer of 2006, Hartford Mayor Eddie A. Perez established the Office for Youth Services. With a focus on coordination, capacity building, and strategic partnerships, the Office has been working within the City of Hartford with key stakeholders to address the needs of all Hartford youth.
Youth Intervention — Our Youth Intervention efforts are city-wide systemic initiatives to divert youth from the justice system and involvement in gun violence.
