Everyone, thanks for the lists, but it looks like we won't be able to masquerade as anything newer than WMP 6.4.

Stéphane, there's already a DivX browser compatible plugin in Totem (call "MullY"), and there's plans to add a VLC-compatible plugin. See http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=462544
