I agree with you 75%. The other part of me is ok with having it a little bit to cold in the beginning and not ending up with a warm wine when you get past finishing half of the glass. I rather "discover" the goodness than loose it halfway thru... Especially summer time when we have 110 degrees here in Sacramento, ca. Anyhow, I have some good whites review at my blog at www.tastesoflife.blogspot.com
It is true if the wine is good, chilling it is a habit people get into when the wine they drink is not very good as it masks the bad flavors. On the other hand if the wine is good then it should be warmer to allow the taster to experience the good flavors!
I've found this to be true, personally. Very often, when I'm served a good white wine straight from the fridge or ice bucket, it's at it's best on the last couple of sips at the bottom of the glass because that last bit of wine has had time to warm up. I don't keep my whites in the food fridge anymore, instead I keep them in the small wine fridge with my reds, set at 55 degrees.
