I still love (read: am obsessed with) the Harry Potter series. I love that depending on my mood I can either get completely lost in a fantasy world, or I can analyze it and draw parallels to the real world.

I love the Harry Potter series, as well as the Lord of the Rings trilogy and The Hobbit...Tolkien really was a genius! My favorite author has to be Jane Austen, because she wrote about people and a society she lived in, with a sense of irony and humor that people can still relate to. I personally like writing about my impressions while traveling to other places, either here or abroad.

I'm a huge fan of Samuel R. Delany, who's an amazing, subversive African American sci-fi writer. Also, I love Kazuo Ishiguro (Never Let Me Go, The Remains of the Day), Jeanette Winterson (especially Art and Lies and Written on the Body), Kathryn Davis' The Girl Who Trod on a Loaf, Colson Whitehead's The Intuitionist, Jostein Gaarder (particularly Sophie's World), and the plays of Caryl Churchill, Tom Stoppard and Tony Kushner.

Of course, Harry Potter is also fantastic!
