Hi,

I am here by way of Shakesville. I loved your question and had to come over here and comment. I hope you don't mind.

I just got married in August and my husband and I still are kicking around ideas on the new name thing. I would like us to both hyphenate. We told my father about this and he told my husband he better not or he would consider him a "p*ssy".

The older I get the more I dislike my father.

Also, my husband makes less than I do which does not bother me, but my mother has asked me before "What kind of man makes so little?"

Cheers,
Evo

Thanks for stopping by, Evo!

I hadn't even thought about the name change! My guy and I have decided that I'll take his name b/c I just don't care enough and would rather avoid all of the drama that'll come. It was bad enough when I decided against an engagement ring, and that was the more important thing for me.

It's amazing how people react so strongly over the name change issue.

I don't anticipate changing my name after (my mythical future) marriage. My mom didn't, and actually she gave me her name, too, so my dad and I don't share the same last name. Some people I know still can't comprehend that he's my biological father. People find naming horrifically confusing if you do anything other than what is "traditional."

Evo, I also like the idea of both hyphenating, though. Seems most fair. That's what I hope to do for my children's names, for sure.

Sally, I'm interested in your engagement ring decision...

Thanks for your comment, Evo! I think hyphenating last names is a great idea. If it was good enough for John Lennon (he changed his name to John Ono Lennon after he married Yoko) then its good enough for everyone!

If I ever get married, I plan to keep my last name too. It suits me, and I don't see why I should give it up.

Have a great weekend everybody!
