Public officials have really lost their nerve. To qualify as "harassment," conduct has to be "severe" and "pervasive." And did he travel to Ridgecrest at gunpoint?

These types of suits and settlements are outrageous and only happen with regularity with so little evidence of like of consensuality in the Anglosphere.

This stuff is a real drain on our economy. Not as bad as the affirmative action / diversity /disparate impact huge inefficiency and internal HR compliances costs, but bad.

Layer after layer of legal and regulatory sludge over our competitiveness.

gay power is perfect metaphor of modern liberalism: decadent, sterile, and buggering America in the ass.

Actually, this sounds like a good deal for the LAUSD: the guy makes $150k per year, so they would have had to pay him $450k if he just stuck around and fogged a mirror for another 3 years -- and that's not counting any retirement benefits he might have been due on top of that.

The lifetime health benefit expense calculation seems much too high. Gay life expectancy isn't that great. Of course the true calculation is what's called cohort survival calculation which requires a bit more math (a matrix inversion) and reliable gay specific figures are hard to come by. But in any case gay men die young.

Most of the problem is simply that the female vagina has been designed by evolution for penetration since at least the Cambrian Explosion. In that long, long time it has gotten very good at performing its function while resisting the sea of parasites and microorganisms that try to invade. The anus is simply terrible as a penetrative sex organ - thin walls, easy tearing, etc.

So people who engage in anal penetration just don't live very long.

Okay, the dude on the bottom gets $450,000.

But did the dude on the top have to sacrifice anything?

Was he fired?

Did he have to give up his own pension?

Did he have to pay any fines?

'Cause, if not, then Top & Bottom sure do have the makings of one whale of an awesome con game - boff each other once or twice, collect hundreds of thousands from the taxpayers, and then laugh all the way to the bank...

If I invite my secretary out to my summer house for a weekend, and he or she accepts, how in the world is anything that happens there my employer's fault? How did we get to the point where serious people with robes and suits and large salaries based on extensive educations could sit around in impressive rooms and make decisions like this as if they make any sense at all?

At least when a gay bishop buggers someone, and the Catholic church is expected to pay for it, the members of the church have the option of showing that the behavior and the expectation that they foot the behavior, are unacceptable by leaving and/or withholding offerings. When gov't officials behave this way, and the taxpayer is shafted, he has little recourse; he can't withhold taxes, and can't demand a retired school administrator be fired. Though Steve's suggestion of seizing the pension to cover for it is a good start.

They're working on it right now, having decided to ditch the bear. They're arguing over whether the Mexican flag or the Rainbow flag will fly highest.

Nothing says "Visual and Performing Arts" like the legendary name Ramon C. Cortines.

Agree with the commenter who pointed out that the alleged harrassment occurred on private property during non-work hours... how on earth is the state a defendant here?

"How did we get to the point where serious people with robes and suits and large salaries based on extensive educations could sit around in impressive rooms and make decisions like this?"

Your question answers itself in the first section: because "robes and suits and large salaries based on extensive educations (sitting) around in impressive rooms."

Google the phrase "hostile elite."

I have nothing to add to the already quite good comments here on the Double Whoopsie Squeeze, soon to be a classic con-job, I'm sure.

But, My God, those two buildings are ugly - ridiculous, inhuman, and ugly. I'm surprised that James Kunstler hasn't featured them on his "Eyesore of the Month" page.

I just wish all this cash was shovelled at talented but poor white kids with high IQs - to give them scholarships or private tutoring rather than 'casting pearls before swine' ie the soft-headed, soft-hearted attempt to magically transform mestizo penguins into eagles.
Just think, the nation I might have actually benefitted by educating a high IQ white kid trapped in a poor family somewhere.

Seems as though the higher-ups in the education field all get some pretty high salaries, and for what exactly? This is the case throughout the country whereby tax money is spent on excessive salaries, expensive structures, consultants, advisors, contracts for various providers, and so on, all this before the little geniuses even walk through the door. Your tax money at work here. Yet every year they cry about not having enough money and want another tax increase, or else the children will suffer.

IF the fellow who retired was permitted by the settlement to do so without any age penalty (I am assuming that in California, as in New York, a teacher cannot retire at full pension prior to age 62 without at least 30 years of service), then this does look more like a scam. The full pension is worth hundreds of thousands of dollars more, and might be enough to live on without working(salary of $150K = a lifetime pension of what, $90,000 per year?). Of course, the San Fran cost of living has to be factored in.

If they do it enough, sure. I knew (though not in the Biblical sense) a girl who was promiscuous at gay-male levels, and sure enough she eventually died of AIDS.

The "victim" probably has AIDS, making his "lifetime health benefits" potentially very costly, especially since he has probably been exempted from the usual "$1 million lifetime cap" which applies under normal insurance plans but not legal settlements.

As my colleague pointed out, his early retirement probably leaves him with a large pension, so his agreement to "give up his $150,000 job in exchange" is no kind of a trade, especially with the $200K sweetener and his likely poor job performance if he's 56 and already ill.

(The official estimate that lifetime health benefits for a 56-year-old are only worth $250K is obviously bogus if the beneficiary is an AIDS patient, and likely bogus in any event.)

Well, I would not pick on California. CoOnservatives love Texas and according to stats let's say on liberal Austin Texas its going minority. White population is dropping and Austin Texas metro area has increase in all three minorities categories. I agree that some job grwoth in the great state of Texas was not good paying jobs but low paying for foreign botn. Texas use to only have whites, blacks and hispanics now more asians. Texas has a high school dropped out rate close to California now and in certain in fact Austin, Dallas, and Houston have more high school dropped outs than San Diego does. Austin was 4.4 percent asian now 5.8 percent asians. Asians do better than Hispanics but Austin the so-called Silcon Valley of the Southwest is growing much faster in hispanics and its projected to be over 40 percent hispanic.

Well, people hate Santa Clara County here because of its liberal politics but that county actually had an increase in the white population and while its havy minority hispanics are behind asains there. For jobs, most of the counties that are doing the best still have hispanic populations under 40 percent. Both Orange and San Diego are doing better than La. Orange has suffered a lot of white flight particlary during the Bush years since housing was driven out of the roof, yet south county is going forward since some housing developments that appeal to whites and some of the housing in Ladera Ranch where kids look as white as OC kids did in 1980 has dropped down. Hopefully less white flight maybe some gains like San Diego County did recently.

My old high school, Canoga Park High, one of the oldest schools in the district hasn't had any major facilities upgrades or major construction since 1978; which was the administration building. The only reason LAUSD did that was due to the fact the original administration building was destroyed in the 1971 Sylmar earth quake. If it wasn't for the quake the last major construction took place in 1968. I think LAUSD has it's priorities screwed up. And, as usual, "over the hill" from the valley always gets more funding. The valley should leave the city of Los Angeles. . .
