The message underlying Lizza's piece is not that Obama is just another ambitious politician, although Lizza acknowledges his overwhelming will to power. The almost-subliminal point is that Obama has proven that he's crafty and tough enough to be President,as proven by his carefully-orchestrated, rapid, ruthless rise to the top.
Lizza has been an unofficial member of the Obama campaign since he fell in love at first sight. See:

Steve, you might be surprised to discover that this post makes me a lot less fearful of Obama.

If he's just another corrupt Chicago ward heeler, that's one whole hell of a lot better than the leftist ideologue he's been made out to be.

Corrupt politics as usual is a great improvement over leftist social engineering.

A lot of people have called Obama a "Dr. Phil" or Oprah type character and it's probably true ... but there's a flip side to that.

Men, particularly blue collar men, but also white collar men, can't stand Dr. Phil and Oprah. They hate 'em. The more Obama becomes a giant-sized cross between Dr. Phil and Oprah, the more men will hate him and vote for McCain.

Obama's strength among feminized yuppies is a weakness among other men everywhere else. Oh he'll still get the black male vote, but white guys? Forget it.

As for people wanting to do things as President, that's not true. Paul is probably akin to William Jennings Bryan, in the futility of what he wants to do politically, but Reagan wanted lower taxes and more defense spending and got both.

This is an absolutely fascinating post. I don't suppose it's possible to get the mainstream media to cover Kindle's actual on-the-ground experience, vis-a-vis the black voters. There was a documentary Street Fight that totally mirrored this not-black-enough-must-be-a-pawn-of-the-jews nonsense. (Although, it looks like the hero (albeit loser) of that story, Cory Booker, finally got elected Mayor of Newark)

And then the idea that Obama had to gerrymander a district to get elected. Good God in Heaven, this guy is a natural born loser.

Why can't he be a corrupt leftist ideologue?

Are white men the bulk of the population? Does Obama even do that badly among them? I predict that Obama will win the election, and while he won't win the white male vote he'll get enough to push him over the top.

If you look at the Lizza paragraph quoted, it boils down to this:

Obama promises more than he delivers, he has adapted to political realities, and he postures as an outsider, but he's really an insider. Oh, and he's grasped the Clintonian concept of triangulation. Lizza claims that this makes him "a paradox." Actually, it just makes him a politician.
