With all this support from the right groups, it's impressive that enough of congress is stopping the bill.

I hope it's for the right reasons, I wonder if they understand the real implications of such a bill.

As Mickey Kaus put it recently on Twitter, all opponents of the bill have on their side are the voters. Hopefully, that will be enough.

I wouldn't call this a conspiracy. Its more of coming to the realization that liberalism in America has finally won.

At some point in the near future, the Republican party will be purged of all it's none-liberal/progressive forces and will be transformed into yet another liberal party.

Hopefully future generations learn a good lesson from our experience: that you cannot successfully defend your culture using secular political forces/ideology.

Culture supersedes politics!

Defending yourself against a culture war using a political system is like taking a knife into a gun fight.

"By bringing together leaders from both parties and Americans across the country, we hope to send Congress a clear message that there is broad support for smart reform"

Used here, "broad support" means everyone from billionaires in the tech industry to billionaires in the hotel industry to billionaires in the media industry to billionaires in the finance industry. A representative sample of all Americans, surely.

Finding comedy in all this insanity is very therapeutic.

This lobbying effort in support of the Gang of Eight is truly an amazing event. In one corner you have Silicon Valley oligarchs, Republican Chamber of Commerce types, Democratic world-improver politicians, Republican empire-builder politicians and mainstream media slime aligned with a few millions of illegal Mexican campesinos. In the other corner you have a majority of American citizens. It's third-world lawmaking at its best. The outcome should trigger your personal Plan B.

"Culture supersedes politics!"

I would state it differently: culture shapes politics(and creates boundaries and limits).

And who shapes the culture?
Media/academics.
But mostly the media.

The right never understood this, and those who did got purged by the Scotch-Irish. But still, in the end, it should have been done.

I blame it at the rightousness of WASPs. They're a very rule-oriented people, because they are basically a trusting people.

Every disagreement can be solved by a political committee in good faith, after all we're all on the same side, right?

Well, no.

It's hard to see how Republicans would hand over a victory of any kind to the Dems and to Obama, in particular, with legislation calling under the guise of immigration reform.

The Obama grapes are dying on the vine as we speak: Benghazi (oh, that story is NOT finished, more hearings and whistleblowers on the horizon; the IRS mess, which will continue, day by day, to reveal, if not direct actual involvement by the Jarrett "yes" Chicago machine, at least tacit nods that said, "Get 'em"; the DOJ raiding of AP.

Even the GOP members who want the bill/law will face unrelenting pressure from their districts and from non-immigration donors who know that now, with Obama's impotence, those GOP lawmakers don't have to pass any damn immigration bill. In fact, to do so, gives Obama a victory that would pull him out of political erectile dysfunction.

News this morning has it that the IRS has even been investigating Facebook postings. That can't be good news for anyone in bed with the social media czar or, for that matter, with any pol that's too publically involved with Silicon Valley at all. Hearings will no doubt make all this even more public.

Speaking of Evelyn Waugh, he was dead-to-nuts right about one thing: we suffer for having come into the world in the "Age of Hooper."

Zuckerberg, Norquist, Gates, Obama, Holder, Bush, Cheney, Ferguson (Niall), Bloomberg, Murdoch, Ailes, Pelosi, Feinstein, Soros, Putin, Milliband, and whoever is now running Red China - all of them are nothing but Hoopers on steroids. We live in the Modern World under a totalitarian regime of Utilitarianism run amok, in which human beings are nothing more than "resources" exploited by the super-rich and super-connected who, literally, figuratively, actually own us in the same way that the feudal nobility owned serfs: they own and control every process, every avenue of learning, every property transaction, every financial process, every social medium, and all of Enemedia-Pravda.

It was two decades ago that I noted with dread the ominous title shift from Personnel departments to Human Resources. We are no longer persons and have instead been reduced to a commodity: Human Resources. Cattle, sheep, pork bellies, poppies, minerals, and even Art and water and sunshine and, now, human beings: commodities. Hence the present massive press for "Comprehensive Immigration Reform" Shamnesty - nothing more than a brazen move to decrease the cost to our overlords of the Human Resource commodity.

Organizing for Action, a grassroots group run by Obama loyalists that grew out of his 2012 re-election campaign...

OT -- Evidently, the DNC is getting very peeved at OfA for attacking conservative Democrats over gun control and generally siphoning away resources from the party.

Now why would Barack, a lame duck, build up the Obama Brand at the expense of the Democratic Party Brand?

Michelle in 2016.

Steve, while your decidedly more humorous take on events is much appreciated, I can't help but notice an underlying tone of resignation and defeat. I can't say I blame you. Maybe you've grown tired of playing the role of the HBD Don Quixote charging at the windmills of multiculturalism and liberalism. And like the rest of us, you feel powerless to stop what's coming (and what's coming is very bad indeed). I guess all you can really do at this point is try to find humor in the situation and laugh.
