It is indeed a forgettable movie. My mother watched it, hated it, and then a few months later rented it again, thinking she had never seen it before. She hated it this time as well, but still did not remember seeing it the first time.

I took the movie's ad with me to the multiplex to help me remember its name (which is borrowed from an obscure Van Morrison song).

"Someone Like You" an obscure song?

Granted it's not on his Greatest Hits album, but it's been on several soundtracks, including "French Kiss" and "Bridget Jones' Diary," and Shawn Colvin did a cover for the lame Clonney/Pfeiffer flick "One Fine Day."

'Someone Like You' is on the 1987 album Poetic Champions Compose.

I thought Ashley Judd's career pretty much ended a while back as she hasn't been in a half decent movie since the last century. She is a raving feminist married to alpha male Indy car champion Dario Franchitti of Scotland.

I found it one of the less hard to sit thru chicklit movies I've sat through. And I thought Ashley looked mighty cute in t-shirt and panties doing that cheerleading routine. Hey, I once met Ashley and chatted with her for five minutes. She was very sweet, warm, polite, and downhome, and lordy was she pretty. This was before she became a star. But it sure left me with good feelings towards her.

Gad zooks, this movie can't really be as bad as it sounds, can it? I'm tempted to rent it just to find out. Incidentally, I feel I've lived more richly for having seen "She Hate Me" and observed first hand that it really was as bad as reviews made it sound, as incredible as that seemed beforehand.

Actually, if you look at IMDB, Someone Like You didn't do all that well overall with either sex. Men give it 5.7, women 6.3 -- hardly an impressive gender gap.

It's interesting that the ratings on IMDB, broken down by gender, are often very much at odds with certain stereotypes in these regards. For example, look at the top movies as rated by females:

http://imdb.com/chart/female

It's Godfather, Silence of the Lambs, Psycho, Lord of the Rings, Fight Club, some Star Wars sequel -- and not all that many supposed "chick flicks."

There are significant differences between men and women, but that doesn't mean every gender stereotype holds up.
