Thanks, Steve. This should help to dispel the notion that Matt Yglesias proffered in his "knockout" story, namely, that urban crime rates has been on a lengthy decline.

For whatever the reason, it more or less confirms that he hasn't kept up with the most current stats regarding urban crime.

Perhaps the result of the Hispanic population boom, which really took off in the mid-90s under Bill Clinton. The proportion of young Hispanics who needn't fear deportation because they're native born is growing.

We will arrive at the 2014 and 2016 elections with stagnant wages still below their pre-recession levels (even as corporate profits soar); with the healthcare system in utter chaos, thanks to Obama, Pelosi, Reid, and Emanuel; and with crime rising for the first time since the late 80s/early 90s; and with Iran on the verge of acquiring nuclear weapons.

Here's hoping the GOP doesn't eff it up.

Iran has been on the verge of acquiring nuclear weapons for about fifteen years now. If the GOP is concerned with Iran and it's one or two nuclear weapons - i.e., if they are concerned with a foreign policy issue that primarily affects another country (Israel), not ours - they will be f**king it up. They should concentrate on what affects America, such as the other things you mentioned.

I heard a little Limbaugh and then an hour later I heard a little Hannity in the car yesterday. They were complaining about the Iran nuclear deal and how it was bad for our bestest friend in the world, Israel. Their hearts weren't in it. They know that most of their audience doesn't care about Israel but they have to say it because thats what they're supposed to do.

The Republican Party is basically only good on one issue and that's immigration because of its based. Obama-care screw up middle class people on heath care but the Republicans spent their time making certain rich people got a tax break, what's
Pnew. No hope for the Republican Party unless they are use against the Democratic Party.

Conservatives are not going to like this but demographics play a role besides tax politics and regulations. For example, Texas is at a disadvantaged by being 12 percent black versus 6 percent for California. Out of wedlock births among teenagers is much higher in Texas since it has an average percentage of blacks at 12 percent and is 2nd to New York in total Blacks. California is only 6 percent black and only 5th highest in total. Texas's out of wedlock birth rates for teenagers is a high 52 per 1,000 while California is near the national average around 31 percent per thousand. In the future Texas is going to breed more low income families by having both a high Mexican population and an average side black population because 52 per 1,000 birth rate r means more kids on welfare or into crime. Having babies as teenagers leads to this. Conservatives are breeding their problem since minorities will not pay much attention to them about having kids and conservatives opposed birth control for minors.

You're darn right. An awful lot of money is being spent to keep those whores off Russia Today. They're bought and they're going to stay bought.

Two separate things.

Areas (A) where crime is going down.

Areas (B) where crime is going up (whether accurately statted or not).

If (A) > (B) then crime will appear to be going down.

However if the *number of areas* where crime is going down is shrinking while the number where it is increasing is increasing then the underlying trend is upwards.

It's a bit like speed and acceleration.
