I assume they controlled for age with that, since we shrink about 1/16" every year after 30.

If one region was skewed age-wise, that would bias the results.

I'm just wondering which region ends up tallest at their peak height, before they start shrinking...

Can anyone give us a link to the source document for the above statistics. I was looking around the NCHS website and found a similar report giving heights and other anthropometric data for the US by age, region, race/ethnicity, education and income from 1976. Is there a report summarizing the current data?

Thanks

The National Health Interview Survey is an interview and the heights are self reported, not measured by a healthcare professional. I've proven that men are lying on that.

The NHANES III is what you want to use to determine heights and weights.

Some people take this height thing a little too seriously. Reihan reports that somebody got shot arguing over how tall recently deceased soul singer James Brown was. I looked up how tall the rockers and country guys are and Agnostic looked up how tall pretty boys and rappers are. Does anyone want to look up R&B singers?

The real stand-out number is the samll percentage northeastern men who are very tall. What gives?

NE areas are more densely populated and more urban, so perhaps they're more assaulted by germs than those growing up in Montana. Effort spent on cleaning house is effort not spent on growing taller.

Higher percent of Italians and Jews among whites?
