It is now 2012, and I was wondering if you recommend Kamailio or OpenSips? Which project is better, and which has more development behind it?

It's very difficult to answer the Kamailio vs. OpenSIPS question. For that I suggest you check out this post:

The code (and features) have diverged a bit more since I posted this but for the most part you should evaluate both projects and decide which is best for your needs.
