Excellent review, Tony. I'm really looking forward to this film, especially since you placed it in the 'Let Me In' category of worthy American remakes. Many thanks.

This is a very smart and astute review of the film and reflection on how it fits into Fincher's larger body of work and themes. You're very correct in noting how this film ties in with Fincher's other films related to obsession, investigation, surveillance, and secrecy (and how those thematic elements interact or come into conflict).

Fincher's version of 'The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo' has some exquisite cinematography, editing, sound design, and score, but my personal feeling is that the film is only different than the Swedish version/original on a surface level. For the most part, the dialogue feels identical to the original film and very little in the plot is changed from the first film. In terms of visuals and sound, Fincher's version is sleeker and cooler, but I don't think the style makes the remake any better; just aesthetically cooler for lack of a better description. Personally I found Nyquist to give a more subtle performance than Craig, and Rapace instilled her performance of Salander with far more mystery and anger than I think Mara was able to convey.
