Seems like a very random lineup of films. Haven't seen the other two but Poison is really interesting. It's an obvious early work for Haynes, and pretty rough as a result, but as you say it already demonstrates the themes and aesthetics that would continue to interest him in most if not all of his subsequent films. I especially love the "Hero" vignette, which I think would stand alone as a quite nice short film on its own, especially with its haunting final image of a kid literally flying away from an unhappy childhood. But the film really works as a whole with the stylistically disparate three segments weaving together and informing one another.

Yeah, I'd have to agree. I can't imagine liking one vignette more than another because they work so well woven together, even without any obvious transitions as the story switches between each of them (emphasis on the word "obvious").

Would that my own random selection of films cut together as neatly. But the only common theme is that they are all recent home releases. As I stated in an earlier post, my summer plans have interfered with my blogging and I've fallen behind on reviews. Look for upcoming posts in which I catch up with recent Criterion releases and arthouse cinema.

I'm ashamed to admit I didn't realize Poison even had one DVD release. I lost my VHS copy years ago and have been itching to see this film again, so it looks like now is the time.
