I really like Mrs. Minniver, but the pacing at the start is very slow, and the rose thing can sort of sidetrack the story at times. There are several great scenes in the movie, can't ask for more than that. I also like the way he goes against expectations at a certain point (not saying any more in case someone hasn't seen it).

You are correct on Crash, too heavy handed on the message.

I still haven't seen Cavalcade or The Great Ziegfeld, although the latter is on my Netflix queue. As it was, with the four films I did see for my own catching up, they basically were reminders to trust my instincts. Due to the untimely death of my 60 inch Sony, I had to watch Around the World in 80 Days on a much smaller screen, but you'd think that by 1957, Michael Anderson wouldn't be afraid to bring the wide screen camera a little closer to his actors.
