So you coose Frued over Steinem? Oh I think the feminist twist makes its so much more exciting. Oh maybe you don't find it as interesting cus you're a man.

I think it would have felt more exciting had something vibrant resulted. But what I'm trying to say is it only makes the text feel flatter.

To your closing comment, being a man has never limited my appreciation for feminist twists in any film. So I don't think it's doing so in this case.

That's disappointing to hear. I was hoping for a return to the visceral nature that's inherent in Shakespeare's play, and which she boldly brought forth in TITUS.

Women are quite capable of feeling possessive desire, and of getting unreasonable and territorial. And we're quite capable of being obsessive, controlling parents. As you say, one of the coolest things about the play was the sexual undercurrent which can be read into how Prospero acts with Miranda; and my favourite thing about the choice to remake Prospero as a woman is that I don't feel that it undercut that or "neutered" it at all. In fact, as someone who prefers women I kind of feel like I connected to the subtext of the play in a way that I hadn't before -- for the first time, it hit home with me, it made it much more effective.
