I've always liked Diane Lane and have been a fan of hers ever since I developed a crush on her in THE OUTSIDERS.

You are right on the money about how well she's aged over the years and aside from UNFAITHFUL, I wish she would get more meatier roles. I thought she was quite good in HOLLYWOODLAND and I am curious to see her up against Mickey Rourke in KILLSHOT.

You're right about the sense of place making a difference. Have you seen You Can Count on Me? Initially I was afraid it was going to be another precocious indie but one thing that convinced me otherwise was its evocative use of place. Location (because it's usually location though you convincingly cite the evocative, and obviously studio-based, Casablanca) is, I think, one of the key killers of cliche (interesting casting is another).
