James Gandolfini's passing is tragic and all the more shocking for how young he was. One of his greatest qualities as an actor was that he was so good, present, and human on screen that his presence alone elevated the quality of weak material in failures and misfires including 'Burt Wonderstone', the 'Pelham 123' remake, 'The Last Castle', and 'The Mexican'.

He was always a treat to watch on film and TV, and both media have lost an invaluable professional.

Well said, Aden. I really disliked KILLING THEM SOFTLY, but still felt obligated to recommend it above because his brief performance in it was superb. Rarely can an actor express a fictional character so completely with so few scenes as Gandolfini consistently does in even his smallest appearances.
