I didn't realize that the DVD was such a recent release - lucky for me it was available when I went looking. Odd that I didn't come to Lynch's ouevre sooner because I've loved Mulholland Drive for years (I'd seen Blue Velvet & Elephant Man, but not Eraserhead till 2 years ago, and not Twin Peaks, Wild at Heart, Lost Highway, or Inland Empire till now).

The Mystery Man is one of Lynch's truly great characters and the more I think about it Lost Highway - along with Fire Walk With Me - may be Lynch's pivotal film: the one that marks his leap from a surreal classicism to a dreamlike lyricism.

Like you, I noticed the Kiss Me Deadly link in the credits sequence, but didn't make the conneciton with the exploding house or the garage - good call. (Kiss Me Deadly is also a great film, though I'd say it's still pretty surreal!)

A really great review, exactly as I see the film. I also think that the movie is extremely beautiful as a sexual tritise. The love scene in the desert with Getty and Arquette is one of the most stunningly shot sequences of its kind in cinema.

Nice work, Tony!
