If memory serves, wasn't the film born out of a messy divorce that Cronenberg was going through at the time. Ouch! I wonder what his ex-wife thought of the film?

This is a creepy film and the monstrous offspring remind me of the Jawa-type creatures in PHANTASM. Weird.

THE BROOD is a top notch film and continued Cronenberg's fantastic run of films.

Coincidentally, since October is rolling to an end and I was in need of some good scares, I decided to rent The Brood this week because I'm largely unfamiliar with Cronenberg's earlier work (the only other two I've seen are Videodrome and The Fly). I think I enjoyed this film more than both.

Someone proclaimed the film to be "Cronenberg's version of Kramer vs Kramer", and I can't top that. I'm just ashamed that I've been so obvlivious to Cronenberg for so many years. Between De Palma and Tobe Hooper, he was there all along.

Great review! This is one of his early masterpieces, although his debut, SHIVERS, is quite good too. And I believe it was Cronenberg himself who said this was his KRAMER VS KRAMER!
