An interesting analysis of Burn, and one I appreciate, but I can't share your generosity. Perhaps if I give it a few years (maybe when I reach the Coens in my Auteurs series which, at the rate I'm going, should be around 2219). Knowing how clever the Coens could be (Lebowski works on about 15 different levels - and those are just the ones I've noticed) I find it hard to buy Burn as a contemporary allegory without at least a few things simmering beneath the surface. Which I didn't sense at all.

(sorry for the lateness of this response).

BTW, if you find time, check out my political series. I'm a little disappointed with the absence of response so far - I had hoped to see some discussions, political as well as cinematic, get going over there.

thank you for your analysis. first one on the web that explores the things about this movie that interested me. did you notice towards the end, when linda and harry are sitting on the park bench, the one-night stand from the beginning of the movie is staring a her, harry asks who he is, she doesnt know...and as that happens, another woman walks up to the man and he turns to her, and the image of the womsn looked like Linda from the earlier meeting scene....

Yes Nikki. I noticed that, which I believe speaks to the point that the Coens are making that the cycle of selfish people hurting each other through their desire to get ahead is endless. This point further driven home by the opening and closing shots of the film, a satellite's view of Earth that illustrates that this is but one of many stories with the same theme.
