Man, I feel like the only one impressed with the Avatar trailer, although I've been keeping myself in the dark on a lot of it. As for the Wolfman trailer (both played today in front of Inglourious Basterds), I liked it quite a bit, even though it looks like Anthony Hopkins is channeling his Van Helsing again and there's a bit too much CGI transforming going on (I mean besides Talbott) to make sense of what the story's going to be.

BTW - watched Do the Right Thing - loved it.

Unfortunately, I think I could tell you the whole story of The Wolfman just from its trailer, and I'm not referring to the elements lifted from the original film. But I'm not grading the actual movie, simply its wonderful trailer.

The most apt criticism of Avatar from what I've seen around the net is that it reminds me of Ferngully. That encapsulates my feelings for the trailer perfectly. But Glenn Kenny presents a pretty rational defense of it here that has kept me from writing the Cameron film off completely.

Told ya you'd like Do the Right Thing, and from your review I take it you were bowled over by it.

I agree re: 'Avatar' - it looks pretty underwhelming.

Here's my quandry...

I'm quite taken with the looks of the WOLFMAN trailer, but likewise rather wary of how long its taken to be released.

Can this be the exception to the rule, that delayed films are often delayed because they aren't as strong as one would hope?

Re The Wolfman: It looks pretty wonderful, apart from a couple of CGI images that made me think of Van Helsing. I became a whole lot less worried about the movie being pushed back, blah blah blah, when I realized it had been directed by Joe Johnston, who is, as far as I'm concerned, as good as gold, one of the most undervalued of action directors (or any kind of director) that there is making movies right now.

Yes, Dennis, I'm a fan of Johnston's The Rocketeer, his Young Indy episode, and I'm very excited about his upcoming Captain America film.
