I loved the opening, too. Like you I knew that the show had me from that point on. And I thought that was Molly Parker! I forgot to mention that in my notes on the pilot, but I couldn't help think that was just another element that links "Boardwalk Empire" to "Deadwood".

Great stuff here, Tony. I'm really looking forward to seeing how this all plays out.

Yes, nice post/summary/analysis of this first episode. I was really taken with Graham's work as well. It should be interesting to see how his relationship with Michael Pitt's slightly haunted/ambitious right-hand man develops.

I didn't mention it here, guys, but you do remember Graham played the manic Baby Face Nelson so memorably in Mann's PUBLIC ENEMIES. Can you believe this guy's a Liverpudlian?

I have fond memories of first seeing him in SNATCH. Man, he has come a long way! Good to see him getting all this high profile work. I bet his work in PUBLIC ENEMIES got him the BOARDWALK EMPIRE gig.
