Stellar list. As I get older, I become increasingly convinced that the very best stuff is at the art house.

A few more for your consideration...

THE SKIN I LIVE IN
INCENDIES
THE TRIP
SHAME
PROJECT NIM

Ryan, the movies I spoke about here only coincidentally happen to all be good ones. But, honestly, what I'm really trying to do is just catch up with the sheer volume of films I've had to see over the last month with capsule reviews.

You can find reviews of THE SKIN I LIVE IN and SHAME elsewhere on the site, with one on PROJECT NIM forthcoming.

Uncle Boonmee is a tremendous movie, really mysterious and moving and also very funny. Weerasethakul intended it as part of a multimedia exhibition that also included the short films Phantoms of Nabua and A Letter to Uncle Boonmee. Those are both very highly recommended, too, and the latter sheds a lot of light on the themes and ideas of the feature. It's especially interesting for the way it makes the political subtexts that always flow through his films more explicit.

I haven't seen anything else by Weerasethakul, Ed. But I'm especially curious to after finding out that the Buddhist monk character in UNCLE BOONMEE's last act is featured in another of his films.

Oh you've got some big treats in store then! Yes, the monk also appears in Syndromes and a Century, my favorite of his films and easily one of my favorite films ever.
