The Band was without peer during the 1960's. Great songwriting, great musicianship, each singer contributed unique vocal qualities. God, I miss 1968!

I wake up an night with their music running through my head. I also dream of certain numbers the do but yet have the vision of being in the group with them.

This phenominum must be similar to those prophets to whom god appeared to give them his will for the world. Stuff like the crusades and the inquisition.

I though that all but Levon were Canadians, I thought. Americans in the sense of culture and North America.

You are right about the Canada thing Ken. If you get a chance read, This Wheels on Fire, for Levon's take.

I was such a fan I followed Danko around on his first solo tour. Still love him to death and after death.

Thank you for all the great comments on the blog tonight. A record, I think.

each member was irreplaceable. no weak links. you can't say that about many bands.

this version of the Band, post Robbie and Richard, was actually really good; great guitar and piano playing, and the second drummer kept Levon on track; i thought Garth had fallen asleep at the keyboard until he took that wonderful saxophone solo; and of course Rick could still sing like an angel; on one of their albums they do a version of Altantic City, the Springsteen song, that knocks me out.
