Small quibble: if the earth is 4.5 billion years old, wouldn't 40 million years be a little less than 1/100th of its lifespan? Not a huge chunk, but more than a blink maybe?

Why be so pessimistic? I'm sure that some enterprising human will, within a couple hundred years, decide it would be cool and break that moon up. We just need to live another couple hundred years.:)
