We seem to be having an east coast theme this week. I was expecting to click through to a listing with number of blocks to the T -- but you folled me with the CA listing!

According to Google Street View, what's on the other side of THIS green monster is even more interesting: "Canyon Manor Mental Health Rehabilitation Center".

From the CM website: "Canyon Manor is licensed as a locked 24 hour Mental Health Rehabilitation Center with open access to a large fenced back yard area to which clients have free access during the day."

From the real estate page for the Lovely Listing: "Large yard with mature trees, and has a very peaceful quiet feeling to it."

You think your current neighbors have mental problems? In your new address, you'd be right. The backyard has a "quiet feeling to it" because you're going to want to be VERY quiet. There's no telling what'll come over that wall if you disturb the disturbed.

To be fair to Canyon Manor, their site does list the following in their FAQ: "Potentially dangerous clients and mentally disordered sexual offenders are considered unsuitable for admission to Canyon Manor."

Granted, these facilities are wonderful and necessary for the well being of the mentally disturbed. And yes, the "Not In My Backyard" mentality can make it difficult to establish these facilities. However, when it actually IS in your BACKYARD?

Let's not speculate about the race, class, or parenting skills of the people who live in these houses. We judge them on the photos they pick, not on who they are as people (unless we really can't help it).
