A bit outside our price range, though. And the commute is a bit long.

The realtor could use a refresher course in writing. He should have written hardwood, instead of hard wood, effect instead of affect, and complement instead of compliment. Am I the only person who is bugged by such errors?
The house is certainly a work of art, but I can't imagine trying to add onto it without destroying the artistic effect. I also wouldn't imagine that there are a lot of buyers out there in that price range interested in purchasing it as a guest house with intentions of building what would then become the main house.
I love quirky, but for the mass market, quirky is not a plus.
Wow, I love it! Stuff like that is so cool to see, and it's unlikely you'll see people building homes like that anymore, because it would make the code inspector's head explode. I'd say snap it up while you can!

Ha! It's located in the subdivision "Casa Diablo."
The street is called: "Casa Diablo"= Devil's House. I guess it was the first and is the only house on the street. Wonder what combination of drugs they were on when they designed this beauty. And, here, I think it is okay that there is only one photo and that the house is partially hidden behind the trees.

It looks like it was constructed out of meringue. So, when selling a fairly pricey one bedroom house, it helps to include some pictures of the interior. It's an interesting home, but I couldn't help think that it had better be freaking stunning inside (and the lack of pictures makes me doubt that) and that curves roofs tend to leak like sieves.
Oh, like it's really tough to sell the nationally recognized Devil Dog Cool Whip Dollop House in this market. Puh-leeze, Sara. Have some faith in whatsisname. Fahey, I think. Jeff Fahey. That's it.
Wow. So this house was definitely built in 1980? And not 1984 after watching The Neverending Story and deciding that Falkor the Luck Dragon would make excellent architecture?

It looks like that dog from "The Neverending Story". Maybe the main home could be the giant turtle or the Rock biter guy!!!
I have to agree with Christopher and his wife. Very cool house! Also sadly it would require a big move and a huge raise for me, but even at this price I am guessing someone will snatch this one up quickly.
To the people who keep commenting that there are no interior pictures: They are on the listing. You just have to click the link under the main picture that says "add'l photo."
I think it's a cool house. Not $599,000 worth of cool, but definitely a work of art.

A unique home like this? ONLY ONE PICTURE?? How are we supposed to ridicule the "meticulously" designed interior?
Hey, I'm a Realtor and someday, with any luck, one of my listings will be featured here. Or.... not. Sigh. Which would be better? And, WHERE do I find such a unique listing? I live in the land of cookie cutter ranch homes. Nothing this cool would ever pop up for sale around here.

Haha, awesome! This is in Austin, Texas! Woohoo! I should totally show this listing to some of my friends looking to buy right now in the area. Totally out of their price range, but still good for a chuckle. :D
It looks like it's straight out of a Dr. Seuss book. I half expect a Who to come out the door.

Didn't Papa Smurf own this joint at one time? Man, for half a mil, there had better be a house hidden behind that mess, one that folks can actually live in.
I'd be freaked driving up to it late at night; I bet it glows ethereally.

But what is it made out of? There are so many bumps and curves in the roof, who knows how many times it's leaked or will leak. The trees are going to drop junk all over the flat parts and the owner is going to have to go up there and clean it off every year. There's a reason why most houses don't look like this.

Okay, my first thought when I saw the post was, "Move it to Austin, I'll buy it!"
Then I clicked through to the listing.
Well, holy hobbit-hole, Batman, I need to free up $600,000!
I'm not really impressed with what we see of the interior. Looks like lots of custom cabinets and such but the pictures make it look suuuuuper cramped.
I'm wasting a lot of time sitting here trying to figure out what on earth it's supposed to be. The interior shots, especially, make me think of living inside a skeleton...

There is a house in the Lakeway subdivision of Austin that is built to look like mushrooms (I think 3). Truly. I have been in it. And it's AWESOME. Huge curved picture window that looks out over Lake Travis, has mosaic tile countertops in the kitchen and bathroom, all the walls are curved, multi-layer, just the coolest thing. It was up for sale a couple of years ago. For $800,000. One bedroom. One bath. Very small. If I could have afforded it, I would have bought it in a heartbeat!
The comment above this one puzzles me more than the the blue prints for this house would.

Poor, poor real estate agents. Not only are home sales down by mumble percent from last year and mumble percent of mortgages are underwater or upside-down or cattywompas, but then they get houses like this one they have to try to come up with listings for. Poor dears.

It would definitely help if the Realtor had any idea at all about how to market that house.
