I'm going to give the highly religious tenants a pass, come on, they've no interest in getting the home sold. However, the listing says it was updated in the 80's. No need to tell us, the kitchen SCREAMS 80's. It is possible to update a kitchen and keep it suitable to the character of the home. Too bad that wasn't done here.

As a young catholic girl, I was constantly doing "penance". I totally get this room. I'm showing THIS to my therapist.

Holy house! That shadow is super creepy, especially given the circumstances. The kitchen is pretty awful, but at least there's fresh muffins on the couter.

What a waste of room! you could have at least three or four stand-up arcade games or pinball tables in there.

Geez, that shadow descending the stairs is spooky. And I like how they've measured the size of the lost down to one-millionth of an acre!

OMG - I could walk to that house.
Farm house...no way was there a farm there in the last 150 years. It is next to the campus of American University.
A google of the address lists two businesses in the building (No surprise since almost every house on the block has been converted to offices) and one is an office for Immaculata functions, I suppose that accounts for the kneeling bench decor.
I too felt the desire to post something snarky, but I put on some Amy Grant and DC Talk CDs, and all is now good. So is it said, so shall it be.
And Amen.
Hey! Are those poppyseed muffins? Can I have one? They totally skew the test results ...

OMG, I have walked or driven by that house so many times. Love that part of town. I'd give my eyeteeth to own some of those older houses - except the taxes are exorbitant in DC. That's why I live in MD now.
David, all of that area was farmland 100 years ago. My daughter was born in another old farmhouse about 4 blocks from there. You can find some great pics of Tenleytown in local history books. Oh - and AU bought that other property in the quite recent past from Immaculata. AU's original campus is a mile away.

The woman shadow is the banister. I think. I hope. So creeped out right now.
It's the night of the senior prom... The Bates High School gym is alive with excitement.
Everybody is there. Even CHAIRRIE WHITE. The chair no one likes. Everyone makes fun of her...
(creepychairriecreepychairriecreepychairrie!)
The chair that lives in that creepy house, with her crazy mother. The chair with the strange powers.
But tonight, no one will laugh at Chairrie. She's with the best looking chair in the senior class. She'll be voted queen of the prom. For Chairrie, it will be a dream come true...
For everyone else, it will be a nightmare.
If you have a taste for terror, you have A DATE WITH CHAIRRIE.

you mean, Sister Mary Catherine. rememeber that we, catholics, should always have two first names.
though, i went to an all-girls catholic school from nursery to college... and everytime i see a nun or a priest, i straighten up my posture and courtsy to them to greet, "good morning" or "good afternoon," whatever the case may be... i don't think i'll have a small pew in my own home. but i can really relate to why the owners have such room.
i'm in my 40's, by the way. oi... i need therapy. big time!
The one bedroom pictured seems to actually be the bedroom of a nun. Look at the black cloak (?) on the chair. This must be a nunnery or a small catholic school, but I bet it's a nunnery...not that I know much about Catholicism, mind you. -Susie

If you google the address, you'll see that it's being used as the Sisters of Providence Convent. And yes, Tennally Town (now Tenleytown) had lots of farm land 100 years ago - it wasn't even considered part of the District till around the early-1900s, if I remember correctly

This listing was found by Ellen. I would say something cutting but, as someone who spent her formative years at a Catholic school, I'm afraid Sister Catherine would come after me.
"Well, what else can you do with a spare bedroom?"

My grandmother had a picture of the Sacred Heart of Jesus just like the one over the bed in this listing. The eyes followed me. I was traumatized.
I swear, I just know what that house sells like, too. Creepy.

I've heard that chairs who wre brought up like this end up joining frats and becoming plastic lawn chairs in college.

Sure, David, how about I "immaculately conceive" last nights breakfast all over that floor!
