I don't know if it's considered passing or failing, but I looked.

*shudder*

"If it's yellow, let it mellow. If it's brown, flush it down."

I think this is a little of both. Wow.

Actually, it looks like iron/manganese staining to me (as a water/wastewater engineer). Is this house on well water?

I doubt that is poo, though I could be wrong. I think it's just water that tends to stain fixtures.

I didn't look. I looked at the link to the 2nd worse, and it grossed me out. So I didn't dare look at the really bad one.

My personality? Definitely WIMP!

Poo or not, someone could have closed the damned lid! (Does iron/manganese stain and float?)

I've followed this blog long enough not to be shocked that the agent chose this delightful picture as one of three to highlight the house.

I didn't enlarge the photo - what I saw from a distance was scary enough - when that happens in my house we have a little chit-chat with the kids until they are so embarrassed it doesn't happen again for a LONG time!

Ah, the old 'monitors' versus 'repressors' personality typologies. I 'monitored'.

I can think that the only reasonable explanation for not closing that lid was that there was a bird eating spider on the reverse.

I definitely agree, they should have closed the lid, no matter what.

Iron/Manganese does not float (it's dissolved), but it definitely does stain, especially at the waterline. What I see in that picture is Fe/Mn staining at and below the waterline.

But I could be wrong.

I guess I just don't understand people! Come on, you go from one room to the next and you look at that nasty thing and say "This would be PERFECT to show off the potential of this house" or "This will make people feel right at home"! OH MY I wonder what their homes look like if that is the best thing they can find in the ENTIRE home to take a picture of.

Just to make everyone feel better, that picture is not on the listing anymore-- now all you get to see is neglected grout on the bathtub tile. :)

Besides...I think we're all smart enough to know what happens in a bathroom that we don't need a demonstrative photo in a house listing to confirm what we suspect a toilet may be for!

Mmmmm...chunky.

I still think the other one is worse.

No, no, the other one is still the worst.

All this one needs is a flush!!
The other one... I dont even know if a product even exists to help that one out!!

Hey, I saw that picture on the doctorhousingbubble blog and I thought of submitting it here. I even went as far as to find the original listing with the uncensored pic,but then I thought better of it...that more exposure was really the last thing this pic needed.

December 16, 2008 at 6:29 PM

Oh no, it's not worse. The other one you linked too was far worse.

As my inherent ironic sense of timing would have it, the musical artist that happened to be playing at the moment I clicked on that picture was ... Korn.

Please do not ask me to explain the irony.

Ooh that does look bad. But they took it down (thank God! Someone must be reading this blog haha). All a lot of these houses really need is a little TLC from Billy Mays!

The only thing missing from that photo is a hawt girl in her underwear taking that perfect photo for her MySpace account.

Well, I clicked the picture. Lovely. I just don't get it. Why zoom in on specifically the toilet? Hopefully that's not the best feature of the bathroom - but you never know. I shudder to think what's in the sink (hey that rhymes)! Thanks for the laugh :)

Why would you think that this is worse than the second link? This one needs a bir of Jif and a flush. The other one should be burned down, it looks contaminated. I wouldn't even dare breath around it.

So if I looked at both...I am??? Grossed out!!

Ha.ha. I looked and I have to admit it didn't gross me out at all. I have kids. Say no more. Of course I "holler" at them to flush, I try to be a good mother... but you never know when you'll walk in an find a similar picture. Although I would never take a picture! It's HILARIOUS that someone put it on a LISTING. I think the other toilet is much more disgusting because we don't know exactly what happened to it...

Did you guys check out the rest of the listing and look at the carpets in that place? The stains were so bad it looked like they took their business to the carpet after the toilet got stopped up.

I'm kind of glad the awful picture is gone. I was able to look at the other pictures on the listing without fear, and was able to marvel at the "plywood-over-the-windows" pictures.

Aw, they took it down. Which means someone must have alerted them to the photo. Which means the agent must *not have noticed*. You really gotta wonder, man. The next question is, why are all the windows boarded up?

I think the 'second worse' one was actually much more disgusting. MUCH MORE disgusting.

Leaving the lid up is bad feng shu, but I guess the person who posted this listing is not exactly in the "feng shui" crowd. Or the "basic human decency" crowd, for that matter.

Every time I see a photo like this (and the other one!), I wonder how people can live like this. Where has basic cleanliness gone?

While house hunting this summer, we attended an open house in a lovely home...until we got to the bathroom in the finished basement: Huge, unflushed poo in the open toilet!!! Dontcha think if the homeowner missed that little detail that the realtor would have noticed??? At least the photo wasn't posted on the interweb...

Let's not speculate about the race, class, or parenting skills of the people who live in these houses. We judge them on the photos they pick, not on who they are as people (unless we really can't help it).
