I love the site. My mother loves the site. My husband loves the site. My children don't understand why I laugh so much when I view the site.

I got the reference.
The first thing I thought was it looked like flamboyant tunnel road converted to a bathroom.

My son thinks it looks more like the holding cell where they were keeping Princess Leia in Star Wars.

My first thought was why in the world would they put a window in the middle of the bathroom.

Obviously this is a home where vampires live. The only portal uncovered by floor to ceiling drapes is the front door. And come on, that kitchen is as fake as a Hollywood movie set! I'm not a Trekkie so I don't know how Klingons might get along with vampires, but it might be a match made in, uh, Eternity.

Oh god, the tunnel! I'm excited that this is in Decatur, IL. I could take a short road trip and see it for myself, but I think I'd start crying at the horrific site of it.

Check out that master bedroom! Twin caskets -- how cute.

The person who owns this house obviously also owns a wallpaper store. And a ceiling paper store. And loves really, really loud paper.

Such alarming decorating for such a bizarre floorplan. That house is HUGE!
And yea, I got a massive Star Trek vibe from that bathroom too. But I can totally see the Leia's cell thing too.

Other than the ceiling treatment, I love the bathroom. Ignoring the choice of colors and other decorating choices, it's actually a really great house.

I think that house could actually be kind of awesome after some redecorating. That said? How about the other bathroom, with tile on the ceiling. Both bathrooms bring to mind things about funerals, the first as the casket commode and then the second you'd feel positively entombed by all that tile.

Or like you were in kiln, which is much worse.

Twin beds? Did Wally and the Beav grow up here?

As others have mentioned, it's clear this family has a penchant for curtains.

That said, I can see a lot of potential in this home. It has some cool architectural details.

I have to say, I love this house. Of course, I like any house that can be used as a labyrinthine maze in which one can raise rare moths and mislead young female Federal agents.

My favorite picture is the rec room, with its custom deluxe high-tech home theater system.

Pass the popcorn and turn it UP!

Yeah, BikerPuppy, I'm thinking the homeowners also own 'Phil's House of Wallpaper', 'Curtains, Curtains, and More Curtains', and 'Tiles R Us', and they used all the stuff nobody would buy to decorate their house. Eek!!

Hmmm, this is perfect! Maybe they'll have an open house this weekend. I'm close eough that I could pop in and check out all that glorious wallpaper and space bathroom and report back.

My favorites include the 2 twin deads covered in black comforters. It's like The Other Donna Reed. Plus, I enjoy that they include 2 photos of the same room. 1 supposedly a den, the other a bedroom. If you must do this, you should probably make sure the distinctive furniture isn't present in both pictures.

The wallpaper! Holy crap, the wallpaper!! *dies*

Also, one of the other bathrooms has salmon-colored tile not just all the way up the walls, but covering the ceiling. I have never seen that before. Is that the room where they do the ritual killings or something? Wow.

And finally, I covet their laundry room. I really, really do.

Great house, just needs some, uh, renovations. Yeesh.

What's with all of the wooden trunks in the bedroom? That's kind of weird. Nice pieces but sitting around in their millions like Chair in a Texas backyard.

How about this? You kind of have to be a crossover Trekkie/Pyton fan to really appreciate it, but it might do the trick...

On the subject of the curtains either these poor people have a 360 degree view of a landfill and try never to look outside or that unfortunate family from The Others lives there.

They've even got curtains on their enclosed porch.

Yup, it's The Others. Or possibly Boo Radley.

I'm getting a serious Heaven's Gate vibe from those twin beds with black bedspreads. Are we sure the previous residents aren't residing in the cedar chests?

@Christopher: I think the ceiling treatment is vinyl supermarket tile.

And this is why mirrors are *not* the ultimate design accessory.

That room could never look normal, but it wouldn't look like the USS Enterprise's torpedo bay if there weren't mirrors on either side of the window.

Each picture gets weirder and weirder. Five (hope) chests in the master bedroom!? What on earth?
I do like the laundry room. The floor tiles and counter tops are great.

Two hypotheses.

a) Family live with curtains shut on every window, every day, so as not to fade The Wallpaper, or not to blind themselves with the reflection in The Tiles.

b) Realtor once was given the advice that you should never take a photo facing direct sunlight, but misunderstood what 'direct' meant, assuming that it meant 'any natural light whatsoever'.

I just want to run through that house and rip down all of those curtains. Also what's with all of the hope chests in the master bedroom?

I almost needed to take a break looking at those pictures with the huge claustrophobia panic they were giving me. Even the little windows in the basement rec room were shuttered. I'm going with vampires. Short vampires (those aren't hope chests in the master bedroom).

I had recently put a contract in on a house and the inspection went off without a hitch only to have it fall through on the seller's end 2 weeks before closing. My coworkers first suggestion...see if the never ending house of wallpaper and sheers in Decatur (just 20 minutes away) was still available. It is. Whenever I shower I'll reflect fondly on the memory of Spock...he lived long and prospered.

June 12, 2009 at 6:56 AM

This may be the creepiest for-sale house I've ever seen. The lighting is eerie, the rooms oddly shaped and arranged, and the decor funereal (love the Spock's funeral and Heaven's Gate references!). It would work well as HQ for a cult.

On the bright side, it's huge and has tons of closets. I could go for that.

Let's not speculate about the race, class, or parenting skills of the people who live in these houses. We judge them on the photos they pick, not on who they are as people (unless we really can't help it).
