I meant to tell you that last summer none of us had shower curtains. The bigger problem was that our toilet was right next to the shower and so we had to be very careful about keeping the toilet paper dry... and the toilet seat... and remembering to structure our mornings in such a way that we didn't have to go into the bathroom after taking a shower.
yeah, everybody is invited to come visit me (just not all at once please). You can have a choice of my bed or the floor in the living room. They are approximately of equal softness.
slowlane, so did you just go ahead and shower getting water all over? So far I have been doing an awkward part bath, part sitting shower, still getting a fair amount of water on the floor.

Nice digs! In Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan (and Brazil, come to think of it) it was not unusual to have the toilet almost under the shower, to share one soap dish between the shower and the sink, and to have to hide the TP to keep it from getting wet.
It reminds me of our shower in the Keel's house where if someone else brushed their teeth in the sink, it drained at your feet into the shower.
I just got everything wet. I think I did try to stand towards the edge of the water so that it would bounce back towards the wall rather than towards the rest of the room.
And the beds... ah yes, the cement bricks. I feel like I should have warned you about these things. I think some people had moderate success with buying comforters to use as a layer of cushion on top of the mattress.

it looks like your shower head detaches from the wall, no? then you could just sit and wash that way. every place i stayed at in japan had a little stool that you had to crouch on and kinda find a way to stick your head under the faucet to wash out the shampoo. on another strain, that place is HUGE! really nice digs, sir!
Right, the shower head does detach, so at least I have options. It is atleast fairly easy to get the water on me.
I've been sleeping pretty well on my bed, and I've been taking my mid-day nap on the living room floor, so it's not exactly uncomfortable, just not what I'm used to. I do have a plentiful supply of comforters, so I think I might try using some for that purpose.
Yeah, lots of places here have no shower curtain. But we have big ole' squeegies that you can squeegy the floor with afterward and apparently people think that is just as handy as having a shower curtain and not having to squeegy.
I dunno. I like shower curtains. Plus the big ole' squeegy does not adequately dry the toilet seat...

Here is a tour of my new digs. Outside in the brightness is a nice little balcony.
I think I'm going to find out this morning how soon I start teaching and, more importantly, where to find food.
