Taking Flight- A bird that can be a dove that you make out of white paper and using the child's handprints. (From the Hands of a Child by Anthony Flores, page 41).
Heavenly Doves- Make soap-on-a-rope doves to remind the children how baptism symbolizes that are sins are washed away. (The Encyclopedia of Bible Crafts for Children by Group Publishing, page 101.) Note: You can use a slightly greased cookie cutter to help children make the soap into the shape of a dove. Or the children can just make it into any shape they want.

This is a more traditional craft for John the Baptist, it gives the wonderful illusion of water by using baking parchment to give the semi transparent quality of the river. It’s a really simple craft for any age and there are templates with and without the words showing for groups using different translations.
Need: Trashcan and 2 balled up pieces of paper for balls
Introduce Game: Who did John baptize? (Jesus)
Directions: Put a trashcan against a wall. Have students line up in two teams behind a chair (to keep them from getting too close to basket). Students then play Horse Basketball, but spell Jesus. The first team that spells JESUS wins.
