Thankfully I'm rarely in that lab, so he's not risking poisoning me. When I do have to work in that lab, the first thing I do on walking in is walk over and close the sashes. It was really the reaction he gave me that pissed me off. And I *will* be dealing with it with the appropriate lab authorities...
For a second I thought I wandered into Derek Lowe's blog.
(You could always start showing him some of the Things Not To Do category from there - esp the ones that involve not closing the sash)

I don't care if you can't be bothered to actually work with the sash down on the fume hood. I get that you're tall and it irritates you. I get that the alarm tone doesn't give you headaches like it does me. But if you're leaving the lab, shut the fing hood already. And when I politely remind you as safety commitee member that you should, don't all but tell me to f myself using gestures.Love, Me

My house, my rules buddy, don't make me get all nuclear on ya (or in my case, sic the IACUC on your butt)
