The best thing about cosmos is that they will grow darn near under any conditions! The other thing is that they are an essential component of a butterfly garden, as you have illustrated. You made me want to go right out and sprinkle seeds!
I was on a walk today, and I was thinking that the bulbs/seeds I bought so very long ago are most definitely no good anymore *sigh* Maybe, like you, I'll try putting them in the soil anyway.
Magic, yes, This picture reminds me of summer excusions to Mackinac Island. Thanks for the memories, Dragon Lady!,

It's Time For Camera Critters!
I have a question for you. What is magic?
For me, this is MAGIC. Mother Nature in all her glory.
[Image] There is a little story about the blooming cosmos. I have seed packets that are so old, I should be ashamed of myself. The cosmos comes from one of those packets. I put the seeds into a pot and said, "If they come up - great -- if not -- at least I put them in soil ... late or not!" And, look what came up. These beautiful pink cosmos.
This picture of the pink cosmos and critter friend was taken on February 5, 2009 by Mr. Dragon.
