I remember seeing her show on TV and just being annoyed at her voice! She was brilliant though and I thoroughly enjoyed the books and the movie. As I watched the movie I wondered if younger viewers would realise that Merle Streep's voice was NOT exaggerated!
The chef and I are long time Julia fans. We used to watch her show on TV. In 1999, we were fortunate to met Julia when we attended cooking school where she was teaching. A memory of a lifetime!
It was partly her idiosyncrasies that made me enjoy watching her cooking shows when I was way younger. She taught me a few things, one zucchini recipe I still make. I love to watch people cook anyway, very soothing to me. I too loved that movie. She's quite a legend! 104!

Growing up in England I didn't discover Julia Child until I saw her on TV during a trip to the States sometime during the '70s. I did enjoy the Meryl Streep movie but haven't ever tried one of her recipes. Thanks for reminding us all about this inspirational woman on her birthday for Mosaic Monday.
I've watched so few of her shows but loved the movie. Meryl Streep was wonderful in it! Thank you so much for the reminder and now I want to watch the movie again!
I enjoyed Julia. Saw the movie, too. My new favorite is Inna Garten. She seems so real and her style and recipes seem do-able. Thanks for stopping by the Garden Spot.
Oh, I absolutely used to love watching Julia cook! I loved her voice and her mannerisms. What a wonderful chef she was, not that I ever had the pleasure of eating any of her food, of course...lol!
I was given a copy of the Streep film (as a present) yesterday and had dug out "mastering the art ". Then I came across your blog.Obviously meant to find it !

Love this -- like you I remember watching Julia on PBS for the smiles and laughs, not for the recipes -- with four small children, I certainly wasn't ready to tackle anything like those. And would you believe I haven't read that book or seen that movie -- I must remedy that

Julia Child was born in Pasadena, California, August 15, 1912.
She would have been 104 years old today.
I read more books about Julia and her life including Julia's Cats.
I think there are a few more Julia books in my stacks that I should read.

didn't become a best seller until after the movie came out...
48 years after the book was first published.

I wasn't much interested in the cooking.
I just thought she was a hoot!

She was a national treasure. Still is! I loved Meryl Streep (another national treasure) playing her.
