The US House has passed an extension on the Patriot Act which would make 14 provisions currently set to sunset permanent and extend two more for an additional ten years. I wouldn't be surprised if the Senate also approves this and then GWB signs it into law. Here's a nice quote from the article: "Periodically revisiting the Patriot Act is a good thing," said Rep. Martin Meehan, D-Massachusetts. "The Patriot Act was an effort to answer the most difficult question a democracy faces: How much freedom are we willing to give up to feel safe?" The terrorists really are winning.
