Turns out nVidia Network Manager (whatever it was used for) was behind all the issues TF2 and other source games had (ie unplayable). Uninstalled it, and now they all work fine, and stupidly fast as expected.

All that's left now is installing all the crap that usually lies around the desktop, and fine-tuning my mouse settings. The Destructor mouse pad really is smooth and fast, so my old settings are a bit OTT.
