Yes, it's a fishing sinker but I haven't yet been able to verify exactly what it's used for.

Correct, any idea why the padding is necessary between the cutter and the stripper?

185. Don't know either, I find these in phone trucks we buy & refurbish so I'm thinking phone wire is their purpose.
187. The length of this sinker would indicate heavy line. Ocean fishing??

I used to be a Microwave Radio Tech, and I used a couple of stripper/cutters like this. My two pair were for cutting and stripping an exact length of wire, as that length would perfectly wrap onto the recieving posts on radios.

on #187 can you thread a wire through the middle end to end? BLACKSMITHS SOMETIMES USED A TOOL LIKE THIS TO REMOVE KINKS from wire by sliding it the length of the wire. and this looks to be hand forged

Going way back to 187 -- it's a trolling weight that can be added to the line without having to re-tie the line. I have a box of them my grandfather used for salmon trolling.
