Yes rushing water is scary ! It can move anything in its path! Glad you are all ok, as for knocking hubby out can I borrow some of that knock out stuff lol for Papa lol or should I just use the old cast iron frying pan, naaa that leaves evidents and dents hehe ! Love the photos, have a great day !
I'm glad that none of you got in the way of that rushing water if it's so powerful.It looks like it can move a house, let alone a person or an animal. I'm happy that you're all safe. Those culverts are massive. I didn't realize they were so big. It's a good thing you showed your foot in comparison.

So glad you are safe. Water is a mighty force to deal with. We were in a flood in our car in Colo. once and I have a respect for rushing water I didn't have until that time. Be well my friend. You have such a pragmatic view on making do with what you have now after the "mother nature" remodel. You are to be admired.
I dislike high water season here, the river sounds like a freight train for weeks.
Sorry for your damage, but glad you all are safe. When nature shows the powerful side it's always amazing to the the damage caused, you just never think abut it on a day to day basis( PTL) but it is certainly humbling.

So true about the reshaping. We had a lot of flooding here last summer. Rivers have forever changed their course. I hope you can work with what is changed.
For something so nurturing, it's amazing how destructive water can be, too. I see you have much work to do and with one out of commission, I'm sure it won't be easy. Just don't let him do too much, too soon.
I'm off to finish mopping up the puddles in my basement. Sigh. It's going to be an expensive fix.
Flipped through some of your old posts. Goodness you've had a lot going on! Appendicitis. Wow. One of my boys had his out a couple years ago. It takes you by surprise. Hope you're all healing and recovering from everything.
water is very powerful indeed. I learned great respect for water when I was guiding. a person can drown in 12" of river if the current is strong enough. on one of our trips a guy wrapped his boat on a rock in 24" of water. got crossways to a rock in the middle of a swift moving channel, they leaned the wrong way, upstream, slipping the gunwhale just under the surface and the boat filled with water and the current tacoed that boat (a 20 footer) to about a 120 degree angle around that rock. took four of us and several strong ropes after we unloaded the boat while it was wrapped around the rock to get it dislodged and pulled to shore.
We are now at 15.7/8 inches and the creeks are roarin' wildly here in the bottom land. The basement of the church was flooded, I had a makeshift Kid's Church yesterday...whatever works!!1 Heeehehe!

The power of moving water is devastating.We are very, very lucky.Many others were not so lucky.Instead of napping when I knocked out hubby,I walked and looked.We do have a home and noone lost their life,for that I am thankful.[Image]This was pasture.[Image]This was a fence.[Image]The water was shirt-deep as I walked up the creek.I was checking on the culverts I posted about a few weeks ago.[Image]This is where they used to be,[Image]this one landed WAYYYY down stream.[Image]Can't cross here any more.[Image]To give you an idea how large these are,This is my foot as I am climbing over.[Image]We were blessed with a beautiful day. Promise of more rain in two days makes me uneasy. All pond levees held and the terraces did their jobs well...it could have been much worse. Mother Nature has reshaped the land and we will work with what we have.
[Image]The road out of our valley is more like a pioneer trail,[Image]but the sky smiled today.
