I like stairstep towns. It's lie the one I grew up in. I think hill climbing keeps one young. There are so many old people in my hone town. Are there oldies in yours?

This is really interesting! I love places like this. Thank you for sharing!
this is beyond cool, i love love love the house on the rock... this house was NOT built on the sand for sure. i like that first shot of the grand sons on the ledge although it made my legs hurt since i am afraid of heights. i would so love to see this. how far is it from where you live... can't wait to see the rest
I have only been to Eureka once, but had so much fun there. We did NOT go to the Crescent Hotel, I hope we get to do that soon. I did tour the house a short distance from Eureka where the man went off to war, his wife tore down their house, and she and the kids built it over again out of rock, with a tree growing inside, along with planting beds. It was the first place I ever saw a bottle tree!
Can't hardly wait for the spookafied blog. And I have a feeling that even though those boys of yours get older....they are always gonna have time for granny. Just believe....Oma Linda

Spooky indeed, Gail. I wouldn't do it. I will say, the one place I've been where I've felt spirits was standing atop a Revolutionary War battlefield at night. Didn't know that's where I was standing or why me and my dog were both spooked until morning.
What a great place to be on holiday. I love the steps, basins and houses built on and around and up n about the rocks/stones. Kinda reminds me of New Brunswick, as we are mostly boulders n rock here, however; not as elegant as those neatly placed stone walls n basins. I would love to roam around a place like this. I think I could wear out my camera. Have fun exploring :)

The town of Eureka Springs was completely rebuilt two times after terrible fires. They decided to use the rocks available to build on, in and around with rock exteriors. This fascinates me.
The first healing springs belonged and were used by the Native Americans. We (the non-natives) butted our noses in and took over. Hundreds of thousands of people flocked into Eureka Springs to be cured of every thing. Tent cities turned into frame houses, into more wooden houses and then after the disasters they tended to build more wisely.
Please keep in mind we have two teenagers with us so most pictures include and revolve around them. Probably my last vacation with them since I won't be so cool as they age.

One of many spring basins we visited.

Notice how they just built around the rock that was there.

Another spring basin
Sixty-six springs in all
Many on private land but some we could enjoy.
Beware many tales and pictures ahead.
We took the Ghost Tour at The Famous Crescent Hotel...
so prepare to be scared!!!

I love the pictures of these springs. Now that is a house, I can imagine how long it took to build those homes ontop of the rocks.
I'm glad you were able to get some good pictures of the kids climbing inside these walls and springs. They growup to darn fast.
I'm dying to hear about your hotel tower.....ghosts and gobblins.

I agree with Alex and was thinking the same thing. If they're smart, they'll think you're even cooler as they get older.
I could not live in a house like that, I do not believe.
Great photos though!
