We have not seen a Copperhead this year. I am so afraid of stepping on one. They blend in with the leaves around here. By the way, my fig tree died back just like yours. I thought it was dead but now it has sprouted out again. My sister lives about 45 minutes from here and the cold did not touch hers, it is covered in figs!
I am amazed your dog could kill a snake without being bitten. Looks like perhaps a copperhead? We don't have those here in S Calif. Enjoyed reading this and the comments.
Your poem was a "triumphant" one. The snake (I don't like those) was caught and killed and you got to celebrate with everyone alive, including your dog perhaps.

Dogs keep things so simple. Cats, too, only they have the unfortunate habit of leaving the snakes at your feet for your admiration.

Sorry to be so late! I love the perfect drama here with the villain, the threatened and the hero ... let's hear it for the working dog!

Whew, I am not a fan of snakes at all....but if it is poisonous, even less so.

What a faithful companion and friend to bar the way to danger.
Glad we could share in Lil's victory!

Well, did the snake survive..I have conflicting views of snakes as they
can have a strong presence in the journey of life.

What a brave dog-heroine! I'd got scared of the snake, especially in the darkness... ~ cool poem for the prompt!
