this is beautiful and i agree with TexWisGirl.. bittersweet and lots of memories. I could never put them in a jar. i can't even stand to see a goldfish in a bowl...I am a Free Willy type person... but i do love fire flies and have not seen them in many years.. my brother liked to catch them.

Enjoy your posts! Don't want to gross anyone out, but I remember removing the light from the tail of the firefly and placing it on your finger as a ring! Looking back, it's kind of offensive, to say the least. Sorry Sandra. :-)

Tex is right . . . melancholy . . .
I love to sit on the porch and watch that nighttime dance!
I remember one time we had some people over and the gal had never seen Fireflies . . . she was in awe.
As a young girl I remember it seemed there were millions dancing in the woods . . . there are less so now . . .

One of your best . . .

Okay, this one is my favorite! What good memories it brings. We called them lightening bugs. Once my brother and I asked mama if we could camp out and use our jar of lightening bugs for our light.

The sweetness of childhood memories... oh, to bring back those days of simple pleasures and carefree days! Beautiful poem, Gail!

We of course have them here, and I'm always taken back to my childhood when I see them. I am grateful to be able to have them around when they are disappearing from so many places.

I used to spend a many a summer night chasing fireflies when I was younger. I don't seen them as often anymore...but I wonder if that's just because we don't see things the same when we are older.

My husband has often expressed sorrow over all the fireflies he caught in jars. Now it's hard to find any at all.
