You should've been there the day my wife discovered her sunroof opened...
Automatics. What's the point? That's not driving, that' riding.
The Quick and the Dead was a great film.

Sometimes all that electrical is connected to whose key is being used in the car . . . I kind of like that because then things adjust to me when I get in the car.
I have driven Buicks, Chevelot, Jeep, Chrysler, Dodge, Nissan, GMC, Ford, VW, Pontiac, Studebaker, Oldsmobile, Nash . . . I think that's it.
I like Sam Elliot's voice too . . . He sounds like a MAN!

Hello Gail, sometimes I think all these gadgets in these new cars just make you pay more money out when they break. Sam Elliott is one of my favorites, he could sell me a care anyday. Have a great Tuesday!

I enjoyed every single word of this post and can relate because I love Sam to, Him and His Voice.. Bob did drive a small dodge truck for 5 years, we bought it because it was good on gas and cheap to buy. we have never bought but 1 new truck or car. we bought the GMC Sierra in 2004 for ME to drive, now it is his. i sat in a couple of the electric seats when looking for my Kia... you are so right, we are now driving computers which means my mechanic husband who can fix anything on any car BEFORE computers can't work on either one.
when i had a 68 Camaro with straight stick, my mother would say do you have to change gears out of every stop? YES i did...bob is with Den, he is a lover of all things GM... i am a point a to point b, that starts and runs person.

I do enjoy how your mind travels, and your adventures past and present. Also, I'm a big fan of him too, (I do believe the voice has lots to do with it) and I'll bet if they ever offered it with him included there'd be a never ending line of women!

The salesman who sold me my present car mentioned it apologetically because it was a standard. I let him think I was reluctant to buy it for that reason and he knocked some money off, when I've never even had an automatic and didn't want one! I do like air con, though, and my CD player to play audio books. You'll probably never read my blog again when I tell you ... I don't know who Sam Elliot is!

Totally with you on Sam Elliot. What a man and what a voice!!! I have never driven anything but a stick. However right after I bought my last stick, I broke my foot and thought maybe I should have gotten an automatic. Also had those thoughts when I hurt my right shoulder but now that all my parts are working, I again love the stick. It is real driving.

Have you noticed if your foot pedals move? The Navigator we bought used before we retired, has movable seats like that; and movable pedals! Great when you are short like me and tall like hubby.

Way back when we lived in California, we were looking for a vehicle, when automatics were starting to take over; we told the sales lady we wanted a stick shift. She laughed and said "Nobody buys sticks any more. Everyone wants the automatic."

We said we weren't nobody and walked out.

Great story, Gail! :-)

Our first new Silverado with all the gadgets was such fun! Half weren't necessary but at this point in our lives, we enjoyed having them. Our brother-in-law who knows everything told us about some of the gadgets!

Now you have sent me to Netflix to see if they have any Sam Elliott movies.

LOL. I LOVE this! First - hilarious about the new gadgets on your car. This is why I CANNOT (and will never be allowed) to drive one of the newer models, I would be stuck in the driveway, with seats, window wipers, horns, everything going, screaming for someone to come turn them all off. Hee hee. I am also not allowed a cell phone (and dont want one) for the same reason. NO idea how to use them. "What do I TALK into? It's just a SQUARE." So am I, apparently. I so enjoyed this post and am glad I didnt miss it!

p.s. I avoided driving standard all my life, until my fate decided I had no other choice - a free car to the impoverished. Astonishingly, I learned, and am still driving standard. I prefer automatic, but my life prefers that I keep doing the hard stuff. LOL.

A gals just gotta love that gruff manly man voice of Mr. Elliott.

This Farm Chick purchased a Lincoln MKC earlier this year and I swear It's far more intelligent than I. Heck, the dang thing told me I forgot my phone the other day. Heeehehehee!

We'll have to catch up on summer. We had 44 head of 4-weight feeder cattle wash down the creek. It's quite a story in itself!

God bless ya friend and have yourself a great week drivin'!!!!

I just love this post!! I am so glad you got a new car and I am glad you like Sam Elliott. I love his voice too. I liked that you know how to drive a stick. I do too and I wish my kids did.
Sticks are real driving. I do wish I could learn to drive a stick on the column but I don't think they make those anymore.
I love your ramblings!!!

I'd rather have a horse. Round here, a horse would go a long way before there was a traffic jam. ha,ha I learned to drive with a Stick and love it - most people now drive automatics - they are really missing out of the real feel of shifting gear and loving it.
