Perhaps just as we sometimes envy their keen awareness, they envy us skills that they do not possess. I would love to be there when you are sawing through cedar, nothing smells better! My father used to bring us little cedar boxes when we were small, and I now have a large one that Papa Bear gave me for keeping tiny treasures.
Ah.. humans treasure sight and hearing.. oh.. but other animals feel and sense so much.. more.. logic less than smelling life as cedar no less than dirt of home.. more when fuller savored..:)
The combination of image and word is very powerful - almost as if the dog knows that the tree will hurt when it is cut..but it needs to be done and s/he will stand there to ensure it is 'ok' - powerful and effecting poetry
Bravo! You've used the hay(na)ku very effectively in this lovely post ... such a pleasure to read and your photo story is grand! Thanks for linking with B&P :-) Bastet

I love our cedar trees, which are plentiful. The smells are so aromatic.
I love dogs, too. They know the simple pleasures...and they are one.
